Changing Environmental Standards | LSWI Segments | 5/17/24
In an unequivocal win for environmental activists, the EPA updated its emission standards to slash instances of air pollution by 80% annually. This ruling affects the entire state, but to those living directly in the path of dangerous toxins, the new standards validate a decades-long fight for breathable air. Louisiana activist Sharon Lavigne advocated for this outcome for nearly six years and is now celebrating the victory. In this segment, LPB’s Kara St. Cyr catches up with Lavigne as she talks about the new standards, as well as her new status as one of TIME Magazine’s Most Influential People of 2024.

Might not be a Cajun from that area, but here in Vermilion parish we respect everything we got....
My baby sister and brother were both born in Zwolle Louisiana which was a few miles North of where we grew up in Anacoco Louisiana. We had 2 stores a post office , 1 restaurant Rosie’s Cafe and plenty of churches because our parents and grandparents took us to church and believed in our education.
Mr. Marin’s spirit & work ethic still shines in many of us who call Louisiana home . We were so blessed to grow up in this part of the United States where families lived close by each other and went to church as well as the pea patches together.
